NEPAL: The Department of Prison Management reports that out of the 1,280 inmates who escaped from Nakkhu Prison during the Gen Z protests on September 8–9, 651 are still on the run. On September 10, 2025, the army enforced a curfew for the third day in Kathmandu, Nepal, and some prisoners were brought back after they attempted to escape by setting fire to the prison during the demonstrations. Currently, over 8,800 inmates are still unaccounted for, according to the Department of Prison Management. So far, 587 inmates have either returned on their own or been moved to different facilities. Authorities have given a deadline of October 6 for those still missing to turn themselves in at the closest police station or prison. They warned that legal action will follow if these individuals do not comply. Families, local governments, security forces, and the media are being asked to help find and return the escaped prisoners.
- Lord, we pray that those who are still on the run will find the courage to return safely and that families and communities will support their return (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 61:1).
- Lord, we pray for the authorities involved in managing the situation, that they will have wisdom in handling the return of inmates and maintaining peace in the community (The Holy Bible, Psalm 107:13).
