The United States praised Bangladesh for sheltering over one million Rohingya refugees. Washington also thanked other countries in the region that provide refuge to people fleeing Myanmar. The statement came from US State Department spokesperson Thomas “Tommy” Pigott. The US reaffirmed its support for Rohingyas and other ethnic groups facing violence in Myanmar. Bangladesh has hosted Rohingyas since the mass exodus began in August 2017. Refugees live in overcrowded camps, mainly in Cox’s Bazar, facing difficult conditions. Monday marked eight years since the exodus from Rakhine State began. Attempts at repatriation of Rohingyas back to Myanmar have repeatedly failed. Growing control of the Arakan Army in Rakhine has created new challenges. The crisis remains one of the world’s largest protracted refugee situations.

Abba Father, we lift up the Rohingya people who are suffering and displaced. May You provide them with safety, hope, and a future. Lord, bless Bangladesh and other nations showing kindness by giving shelter to the displaced. May their generosity bear fruit in peace.(The Holy Bible, Psalm 146:9).

God of peace, we ask for an end to violence in Myanmar. Bring justice, healing, and reconciliation so that the Rohingya and others can return home safely (The Holly Bible, Psalm 46:9).
