MYANMAR: The United Nations reported on Tuesday that the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar is deteriorating, drawing parallels to the 2017 atrocities against the Rohingya minority, which some nations classified as genocide. Rakhine State is under blockade by Myanmar’s military as it confronts ethnic fighters amid a complex civil war that has engulfed the nation since the junta’s coup that overthrew the democratic government in 2021. UN rights chief Volker Turk cautioned that both the military and local ethnic fighters from the Arakan Army have operated with almost total impunity, allowing for a continuous cycle of violations and suffering for civilians. He noted that videos and images depict death, destruction, and despair, strikingly reminiscent of the scenes witnessed during the 2017 military atrocities against the Rohingya minority.

  • Lord, we pray for peace to prevail in Myanmar and for healing for those who are suffering due to the ongoing violence. May God comfort the victims and bring restoration to the land (The Holy Bible, Matthew 25:35).
  • Lord, we pray for justice for those affected by the atrocities and for protection over vulnerable communities, especially ethnic minorities like the Rohingya. May God strengthen those who work for human rights and bring awareness to their plight (The Holy Bible, Exodus 22:21).
