MYANMAR: Myanmar’s military-controlled detention centers are known for severe abuse, including beatings, electric shocks, and gang rape. Since the military overthrew the civilian government in a coup in 2021, the country has been engulfed in civil war, with troops battling various pro-democracy fighters and ethnic armed groups. This conflict has led to a significant crackdown, resulting in nearly 30,000 arrests, as reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners monitoring group. A report from the UN’s Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) revealed that there have been “serious abuses during interrogations and in detention facilities.”
- Lord, we pray for all those who are suffering in the detention centers of Myanmar. We ask for your divine comfort and healing for the victims of severe abuse. May they experience your presence and find strength amidst their pain (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).
- Lord, we cry out for peace in Myanmar. We ask that you bring an end to the violence and restore justice to the land. May the hearts of those in power be transformed to seek peace and reconciliation rather than conflict (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 32:17).
