Typhoon Wutip hit central Vietnam and southern China, causing heavy rain and strong winds. The storm killed five people and left two missing in Vietnam, especially in Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces. Large areas of farmland, over 70,000 hectares, were flooded, damaging crops. The typhoon reached speeds of up to 128 km/h (80 mph) but weakened to a tropical storm as it moved over the Gulf of Tonkin. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center expects it to disappear soon. The flooding and destruction show how dangerous typhoons can be for Vietnam. Natural disasters like this are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change. Last year, natural disasters caused 514 deaths in Vietnam, three times more than in 2023, showing how the country faces growing risks from severe weather.
Pray for an improved and more effective disaster management system in Vietnam to tackle the severe weather and protect civilians (The Holy Bible, Job 12:13).
Pray for divine protection for all the Vietnamese people from natural disasters. Pray for the LORD’s comfort for the families of the deceased victims (The Holy Bible, Psalm 57:1).
