In a significant diplomatic development, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has agreed to increase the flow of water to Iraq following a request from Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani during a high-level meeting on July 1, 2025. Erdoğan approved an increase in water releases from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to 420 cubic meters per second, effective July 2. Speaker Al-Mashhadani stressed the urgency of this increase, especially for Iraq’s drought-stricken southern regions, and also requested support in facilitating Iraqi residency permits in Turkey. President Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to Iraq’s stability and prosperity, calling Iraq a valued neighbor and emphasizing a spirit of shared blessings. Both leaders expressed hope for continued cooperation and sustainable growth in bilateral relations.

Abba Father, we thank You for this breakthrough in water cooperation between Turkey and Iraq. We pray that this increased water flow brings relief to the parched lands and suffering people of Iraq, especially in the south. May You continue to provide abundantly for all who are in need (The Bible, Psalm 65:9).

Lord, bless the leaders of Turkey and Iraq with wisdom, compassion, and unity. May their cooperation be a model of peace and shared responsibility. Let their actions bring lasting benefit to their people and glorify Your name (The Bible, Psalm 133:1).
