TIBET: Tibetan environmental activist Tsongon Tsering was released from prison on July 8 after spending more than eight months in detention in Ngaba (Ch: Aba) Prefecture, Sichuan Province, as reported by the Dharamshala-based Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD). Despite his release, the 29-year-old faces significant restrictions that limit his fundamental freedoms. The report indicates that Tsering appeared physically weakened upon his release, and he was subjected to strict conditions that accompanied his early discharge before completing his full sentence. The exact reason for his early release is not clear. TCHRD has called on the Chinese government to immediately remove all restrictions on Tsongon Tsering, ensure he receives adequate medical care, and respect his rights in line with international human rights standards. The organization highlighted the necessity to end the ongoing persecution of environmental defenders in Tibet and demanded accountability for those who violate their rights.
- Lord, we pray for Tsongon Tsering’s physical and emotional healing after his time in detention. Ask that all restrictions on his freedoms be lifted and that he may thrive in safety and support within his community (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 30:17).
- Lord, we pray for justice for Tsongon Tsering and all those who advocate for the environment in Tibet. May their rights be respected and may there be a change in policies to protect them from persecution (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8-9).
