On August 26, villagers and demonstrators of nationalist origin joined at Ban Nong Chan in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province and declared the border area Thai territory and called for Cambodians to leave the region. On the day of the protest, there was chanting, objecting to soldiers, and the removal of fences. Although tensions have for now abated, Thai soldiers remain in position to keep order and maintain national sovereignty. Demonstrators have complained against the government for doing nothing regarding what they view as a Cambodian invasion. People have been cautioned by the police against going near the area for security purposes. Across the barbed wire fence, Cambodian soldiers are reported to have gathered villagers and monks, waving Cambodian flags. Sources indicate that if fighting were to erupt again, they might be able to use civilians as human shields. Thai authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have welcomed popular support for safeguarding the borders. The incident highlights ongoing tensions over land ownership and national borders between the two neighboring countries.

Pray for wise counsel for the authorities of Thailand and Cambodia to find a peaceful solution to the border disputes. Pray for friendly and peaceful relations between the two countries (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).

Pray for divine protection upon all the innocent civilians living in the bordering areas between Thailand and Cambodia. Pray for peace to prevail in the region (The Holy Bible, Psalm 29:11).
