At least 25 people were killed and 63 injured in a suicide bombing at a church in Damascus, Syria. A man entered the Greek Orthodox Church during a service, started shooting, and then blew himself up. The attacker was linked to the Islamic State (IS), though the group hasn’t claimed responsibility yet. This is the first such attack in Damascus since rebels overthrew President Assad in December. The explosion damaged the church and caused chaos. Many countries and groups, including the UN and the Arab League, condemned the attack. Syria’s interim government is being urged to protect minorities. IS has a history of attacking Christians and still poses a threat despite losing most of its territory in 2019. Experts say IS may use the current unrest to launch more attacks. Thousands of IS fighters and supporters remain in prisons and camps across Syria. Investigations into the bombing are ongoing.

Pray for the perpetrators behind the attack on the Church in Syria to be quickly brought to justice. Pray for the interim government to take immediate action to protect the religious minorities, especially Christians in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 9:9).

Pray for the LORD’s comfort for the families of the deceased victims. Pray for the LORD’s healing power upon all the injured victims. Pray for divine protection upon all the Syrian believers in the country (The Holy Bible, Zechariah 2:8).
