Two days of fighting between government troops (SSPDF) and rebel forces (SPLA‑IO) in South Sudan have raised serious concerns for the country’s fragile peace. Clashes occurred in Western Equatoria and Upper Nile States, including around Mathiang and Lainya County, as rebels defended against government moves. The SPLA‑IO reported one rebel fighter and two soldiers killed, with others injured. This violence is seen as breaking the 2018 peace agreement aimed at ending years of civil war. Tensions had been rising since March, when government operations in civilian areas and reports of Ugandan military support for the government caused alarms. The arrest of Vice President Riek Machar, accused of criticizing such foreign support, further destabilized the situation. Together, these developments suggest South Sudan may be sliding back toward renewed conflict, raising fears both regionally and internationally.

Pray for the LORD’s intervention in South Sudan against the political unrest and escalation of violence. Pray for divine protection upon all the civilians in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:17).

Lord Holy Spirit, touch the hearts and minds of the warring parties in South Sudan so that they lift their eyes to Heaven and humble themselves in the Presence of the Most High GOD, who can put down those who walk in pride. Grant them wise counsel to end the war and to work according to the Will of the Almighty GOD (The Holy Bible, Daniel 4:34-35).
