Syria is facing its worst drought in decades, which is devastating wheat and barley crops and threatening the country’s food security. Rainfall during the early part of 2025 was the lowest in over 25 years, and groundwater levels have dropped significantly. Farmers across key regions like Al-Nashabiyah, Daraa, and northeastern Syria are losing entire harvests due to a lack of rain, dried-up wells, and fuel shortages for irrigation. Many are deeply in debt and giving up farming altogether. Crop yields have fallen by up to 100% in some areas, especially for rain-fed agriculture. Climate change is worsening the situation, with higher temperatures increasing evaporation and stressing plants. Experts warn that poor irrigation practices and the use of unsuitable crop varieties are exacerbating the situation. Farmers and experts are calling for sustainable practices, better irrigation systems, and government support. Without urgent action, the drought threatens Syria’s agriculture, economy, and access to food. This year’s harvest is among the worst in living memory.

Abba Father, we pray and seek Your face for mercy and healing. LORD, forgive the sins of the people of Syria and heal their land. Bless the people and their land to be restored, in the Mighty Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen (The Holy Bible, 2 Chronicles 7:14).

Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to tackle the drought and water scarcity in Syria. Pray for divine provision for all the families, especially farmers, during this time of uncertainty. Pray for improved agricultural practices, food security, and economic stability in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 118:25).
