Saudi Arabia is using a large comedy festival from September 26 to October 9, 2025, to distract people from its serious human rights abuses. The festival, held from September 26 to October 9, includes the anniversary of journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder. Saudi Arabia recently executed two journalists for peaceful speech. Many famous comedians are performing, with some being paid over a million dollars. One comedian was removed from the lineup after joking about the country’s poor human rights record. People who speak out in Saudi Arabia often face prison or even death. Activists and writers have been jailed for peaceful actions, and trials are often secret or unfair. While the country promotes entertainment and tourism, it continues to arrest critics, limit free speech, and hide the truth. Some worry that international stars performing there are helping the government appear modern and open, while it continues to silence its own people.
Pray for the Saudi government to adhere to international human rights laws and to allow all its citizens to exercise their rights and freedoms without any hindrance (The Holy Bible, Job 24:13).
We proclaim freedom, justice, and peace of GOD to prevail in the nation, Saudi Arabia, in the Mighty Name of Lord Jesus Christ, who has all authority in Heaven and on earth (The Holy Bible, Matthew 28:18).
