On July 1, the Tasis alliance in Sudan announced the creation of a new governance council. Formed in February in Nairobi, this coalition includes armed groups, political parties, and civil society organizations allied with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Its goal is to establish a rival government to the army-backed one in Port Sudan. RSF leader General Hemedti was named president of the 31-member council, with SPLM-N leader Abdel Aziz al-Hilu as vice president. The SPLM-N, once a longtime opponent of the Sudanese government and Janjaweed militias, is now considered a key ally. Hemedti has spoken about building a secular and democratic Sudan. The council’s announcement was delayed by internal divisions, but its formation marks a major political move by the RSF. The alliance must now decide on a capital for their proposed government, further deepening the country’s political split amid ongoing conflict.
Pray against all the moves of the warring parties that undermine the peace negotiations in Sudan. Pray for the stability of the nation. (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 11:14).
Pray for divine protection upon all Sudanese people. Pray for humanitarian aid and other basic needs of the Sudanese people to reach them on time and without any hindrance (The Holy Bible, Psalm 40:17).
