The relationship between Eritrea and Ethiopia has become tense again, showing signs of a new cold war. In a recent interview, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki denied Ethiopia’s claims that Eritrean troops are still on Ethiopian land and causing problems. He said these are false accusations used to cover up Ethiopia’s war plans. Tensions escalated after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed discussed the need for sea access, which Eritrea perceived as a threat to its sovereignty. President Isaias warned that Ethiopia is creating danger in the region by focusing on war instead of solving its internal problems. He also said that outside powers might be supporting Ethiopia’s actions. While Ethiopia claims to want peace and development, Eritrea believes its neighbor is preparing for conflict. President Isaias said Eritrea has no desire for war but will defend itself if attacked. The cold relations between the two countries are now growing worse with mistrust and threats.
Pray for peaceful relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Pray for the LORD’s peace and justice to prevail in the Horn of Africa (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
Pray for the LORD’s love to supernaturally fill the hearts of the leaders of both Eritrea and Ethiopia to end the cold war. Pray for divine protection upon all the innocent civilians of both countries, especially those who are living in the border areas (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 14:26).
