Nepal: In the previous fiscal year, the National Human Rights Commission investigated 55 torture complaints and recommended compensation in 17 cases, as well as action against 16 individuals involved in torture. However, no criminal charges were filed against any of the offenders. According to records from the Advocacy Forum Nepal, at least 10 instances of torture were reported in police custody in 2024. Nepal expressed serious concerns regarding the government’s ongoing failure to address these serious abuses. They called on the authorities to take immediate and effective measures to eliminate the use of torture as a law enforcement practice and to ensure accountability for such violations. They emphasized the necessity for an independent body to monitor and investigate all claims of torture and deaths in custody.

  • Lord, we pray for justice to prevail for all victims of torture and human rights abuses in Nepal. Ask for accountability for those who engage in such unlawful practices and for the authorities to take decisive action against offenders, ensuring that no one is above the law (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).
  • Lord, we pray for the healing of individuals who have suffered from torture, that they may find restoration and peace. Additionally, pray for the implementation of effective measures to protect individuals in custody and prevent further abuses, fostering a culture of respect for human rights (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).
