Tajikistan’s glaciers are melting quickly due to climate change, putting the country’s water supply at serious risk. The country is warming twice as fast as the global average, and more than 1,000 of its 14,000 glaciers have already disappeared. Many remaining glaciers could shrink by over half by 2050. This is a big problem because Tajikistan depends on rivers from these glaciers for drinking water, farming, and electricity through hydropower. These rivers also flow into other nearby countries, so the problem affects the whole region. From 2020 to 2023, the country faced almost 1,800 natural disasters caused by changing weather, which killed people and damaged the economy. Experts warn that the situation will get worse without urgent action. Tajikistan and its neighbors must work together to protect water resources, monitor glaciers, and plan for a future with less water. Better cooperation and climate action are needed to prevent a major water crisis.

Pray for the unity and wise counsel for the authorities of Tajikistan and its neighboring countries to find a solution to the increasing water crisis in the region. Pray for more precautionary measures to protect the water resources of the countries (The Holy Bible, Job 12:13).

Pray for the LORD’s protection upon Tajikistan from rapidly melting glaciers. Pray for divine provision of natural resources for all the people in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 31:2).
