MALI: In 2022, Russian military advisors, previously called Wagner, began their operations in Mali after the government expelled French troops. They have since changed their name to Africa Corps. Their pay is also much higher than before. However, Wagner has not yet secured any mining deals as compensation. The group claims it has struggled to effectively combat Islamist and separatist groups that challenge Mali’s government. Since Wagner arrived in Mali, there has been a notable rise in attacks on civilians and an increase in civilian deaths. This situation has seriously harmed the relationship between the Malian military and the local people. The report suggests that the International Criminal Court (ICC) should investigate possible war crimes committed by Wagner forces and hold them accountable for human rights violations.

  • Lord, we pray for the safety and protection of the civilians in Mali who are suffering due to the violence and instability. Ask God to bring peace to the region and restore harmony among communities (The Holy Bible, Psalm 9:9).
  • Lord, we pray that justice will prevail and that any violations of human rights will be investigated thoroughly. Ask for wisdom and courage for those in positions of authority to take a stand against wrongdoing and to seek accountability (The Holy Bible, Micah 6:8).
