Mali: Assimi Goita has been the president of the transitional government since May 28, 2021. It now appears that he may remain in this position until at least 2030, despite never being elected by the Malian people. After taking power through two military coups in 2020 and 2021, Goita received political support from important allies last month, allowing him to potentially stay in power indefinitely. Although Goita and the military junta initially pledged to hand over power to civilian authorities by the end of 2024, no elections have been held or scheduled. The law must now be reviewed by the National Transitional Council.

  • Lord, we pray for the leaders of Mali, including Assimi Goita, to seek wisdom and guidance in their decision-making processes and to prioritize the well-being of the Malian people (The Holy Bible, 1 Timothy 2:1–2).
  • Lord, we pray for peace and stability in Mali, that any decisions regarding governance and the future of the country would lead to a democratic process, respecting the voices and rights of the citizens (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 29:7).
