LIBYA: During an international meeting on irregular migration held in Tripoli, Libyan Interior Minister Emad Trabelsi emphasized that his government’s primary concern is the voluntary return of migrants. The high-level meeting, chaired by Libyan Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, included the participation of the Interior Ministers from Italy and Malta, the Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum, and the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration from the European Union. Trabelsi noted that in the past, Libya deported between 9,000 and 16,000 migrants annually, which he described as a small figure compared to the total number of irregular migrants in the country. He stated that the current number of irregular migrants in Libya has reached 4 million, a significantly large figure.
- Lord, we pray that the needs and rights of the 4 million irregular migrants in Libya are recognized and addressed, ensuring their safety, dignity, and the opportunity for voluntary return to their home countries (The Holy Bible, Psalm 82:3).
- Lord, we pray for the participating countries to work together with compassion and wisdom, creating effective and humane policies that support migrants and address the root causes of irregular migration (The Holy Bible, Galatians 6:9).
