Indonesia is experiencing a serious unemployment crisis, which a recent Bekasi job fair demonstrated. At the job fair, there were 2,000 available jobs, but more than 25,000 job hunters showed up, a dramatic illustration of the acute mismatch between employment supply and demand. The imbalance is exemplary of other economic issues, such as an increase in layoffs across labor-intensive industries such as textiles and electronics. Over 18,000 workers were dismissed in the first two months of 2025 alone, with some areas seeing even higher figures. Young people are especially affected, with almost 10 million aged between 15 and 24 unemployed, making up more than half of the nation’s unemployed. This is said to be caused by a gap between the education system and the requirements of the labor market, as most young people do not have the skills that companies demand. In return, the government is holding weekly employment fairs and placing training programs in order to close this gap and lower unemployment levels.
Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to come up with training programs to close the gap between the education system and the labor market needs in Indonesia and to lower the unemployment rate in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 118:25).
Pray for all the unemployed in Indonesia, especially young people, to utilize the training programs to improve their skills. Pray for more resilience and perseverance for them. Pray for open doors of new job opportunities to all unemployed people in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 24:14).
