Iraq has significantly reduced its national poverty rate to 10.8% from 2018 to 2024, as announced by Minister of Planning Mohammed Ali Tamim. This progress was shared during the launch of the National Multidimensional Poverty Index Report. The report examines poverty beyond income, identifying developmental gaps and social deprivations. Iraq collaborated with the UNDP and OPHI to develop comprehensive poverty assessments. The index will guide policy to address regional and sectoral needs and improve living conditions. Iraq plans to introduce a pioneering poverty index focused on women’s welfare. It is also leading in child poverty assessment, with a new index planned for 2026. The efforts support Sustainable Development Goals and mark Iraq as a regional leader in poverty research.
Thank You, Lord, for the progress Iraq has made in reducing poverty and uplifting its people (The Holy Bible, Psalm 113:7).
We praise You, God, for inspiring leaders to seek justice and create policies that bring dignity to the vulnerable (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8-9).
