A ferry named KM Barcelona 5 caught fire off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Three people died, and over 500 were rescued. The ferry was traveling from Melonguane to Manado when the fire started, possibly on the upper deck. Many passengers jumped into the sea to escape the flames and smoke. Some videos showed people wearing life jackets and jumping into the water. Rescue teams used ships and boats to save people, and 568 were rescued. Two people thought to be dead were later found alive, including a baby. The ferry had only 280 passengers listed, but it may have carried many more. Accidents like this happen often in Indonesia because of poor safety and rough seas. This fire happened just weeks after another ferry accident near Bali that killed 19 people. Officials are still searching for missing passengers and helping families at a 24-hour rescue post.
Pray for the effective implementation of precautionary measures to safeguard the safety of the people from boat accidents in Indonesia. Pray for divine protection upon all the passengers from such accidents (The Holy Bible, Psalm 141:8).
Pray for immediate and true investigations into all the recent ferry accidents in Indonesia to prevent such incidents in the future. Pray for the LORD’s comfort for the families of the deceased (The Holy Bible, Psalm 30:10).
