Myanmar: Myanmar’s military-backed election authority is actively preparing for a scheduled election in December. They are training personnel to operate electronic voting machines instead of traditional paper ballots and are looking for ways to increase public backing for an election that is considered vital for the junta’s legitimacy. The chairman of the Union Election Commission, Ko Ko, recently met with the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission to talk about election monitoring and ensuring voting accessibility for individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women. This meeting took place two weeks after he directed pro-junta media to publicize the commission’s efforts.
- Lord, we pray that the electoral process in Myanmar will be conducted with integrity and fairness, allowing the voice of the people to be heard. May the efforts of the election authority to include monitoring and accessibility for all citizens, including those with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women, be genuinely realized (The Holy Bible, Exodus 20:16).
- Lord, we pray for peace and stability in Myanmar during this election period. We ask for wisdom and discernment for leaders and voters alike, that the election will be a step toward healing and unity in the country, rather than division and conflict (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 19:21).
