Egypt: Egyptian authorities have detained 48 drivers for drug use as part of a nationwide effort to enhance road safety. This initiative follows widespread public anger over a series of fatal accidents on the Regional Ring Road, which links six provinces and is infamous for its high accident rate. The road’s safety has been compromised due to poorly managed repairs by the state, which have forced two-way traffic into a single lane over a 110-kilometer stretch. The crackdown also led to 744 traffic violations on the Regional Ring Road, including driving against traffic, overloading passengers, and not meeting licensing standards. In addition to the 48 drivers arrested for drug offenses, 36 individuals with a total of 136 outstanding court judgments were apprehended, and seven vehicles were seized for serious infractions.

  • Lord, we pray for the authorities to take effective steps to enhance road safety and ensure that all drivers understand the importance of responsible driving. May this initiative lead to lasting changes that protect lives and reduce the number of accidents (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 16:9).
  • Lord, we pray for the families affected by road accidents, that they may find comfort and healing from their losses. May communities come together to support those in need and advocate for improved safety measures on the roads (The Holy Bible, Psalm 147:3).
