A new UN report says Afghan women working for the United Nations in Afghanistan have received direct death threats. These threats, made in May, came from unknown people because of the women’s work with UN groups. The Taliban denied making the threats and said an investigation is happening, but a Taliban official claimed there were no threats at all. Since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, women have been banned from working with NGOs and the UN, and face strict rules like wearing a full-body cloak (chador). Women have also been arrested for not wearing it and banned from public places. Girls have been kept out of school, with 1.4 million missing education. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for two Taliban leaders for abusing women’s rights. The Taliban rejected the charges and said it does not accept the ICC’s authority. The UN warns an entire generation of Afghan girls is at risk.

Pray for divine protection for all the women aid workers and civilians in Afghanistan. Pray for uninterrupted provision for all the people in dire need (The Holy Bible, Psalm 141:8).

Pray for the Taliban to allow the citizens, especially women and girls, to experience real freedom in their homeland. Pray for all women and girls in Afghanistan to have access to all their rights and freedom in their home country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 40:17).
