On the night of June 21, 2025, a woman set off a bomb in a crowded fish market in Konduga, near Maiduguri in Nigeria, killing at least 12 people. This is the first suicide bombing in the region in 2025, after a drop in such attacks in recent years. Boko Haram, an Islamist group, has used suicide bombings, often carried out by women, since 2011. The group later split into rival factions like ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) and JAS (Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad). While ISWAP focuses on military targets, JAS continues attacking civilians. JAS leader Abubakar Shekau died in 2021, weakening the group, but recent attacks suggest it may be regaining strength. President Bola Tinubu called the bombing an act of fear and urged security forces to act. Although no group has claimed the attack, it raises serious safety concerns. Attacks on innocent people must stop.
Pray against all the terrorist groups acting in Nigeria. Pray for the LORD’s intervention to break every chain of violence and extremism prevailing in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 3:7).
Pray against the resurgence of violence and suicide bombing in Nigeria. Pray for divine protection upon all the innocent civilians from violent attacks. Pray for divine peace to prevail in the nation (The Holy Bible, Psalm 107:13-16).
