More than 30 were murdered during recent attacks on three villages in Benue State in central Nigeria over the weekend, local official Ormin Torsar Victor said. The most lethal was in Aondana, where 20 were said to have been killed, including children. Killed were a father and his two sons in Tewa Biana, close to the site of a military base. One resident recounted horrific scenes, including a baby who was hacked to death with a machete. The Benue police confirmed two of the attacks but claimed fewer casualties, with three killed and one policeman who was killed fending off one of the raids. The motive for the attacks is still unknown, but Victor attributed them to Fulani herders, reviving tensions between nomadic Muslim herders and mostly Christian farmers. Such attacks are typical in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where land and grazing rights disputes sometimes turn into fatal ethnic and religious violence. Benue has been especially hit by these continued battles.
Pray for the LORD’s intervention in Benue State in Nigeria to end the ethnic tensions and religious violence. Pray for divine protection upon all the innocent civilians in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 46:9).
Pray for the perpetrators behind these violent attacks in Benue State, Nigeria, to be brought to justice quickly. Pray for the LORD’s love to supernaturally fill the hearts of the people to end the ethnic tensions in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 10:12).
