At least 79 were killed after two more died due to injuries from a disastrous bus crash in western Afghanistan. The accident occurred in Herat province’s Guzara district when an Afghan returnee’s bus from Iran collided with a motorcycle and a tanker carrying fuel, resulting in a huge blaze. At least 19 children were among the fatalities. The majority of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition. Three were left alive, all badly burned. Witnesses reported that they were unable to assist due to the ferocity of the fire. There were a lot of women and children on board, having been deported from Iran. The Taliban administration has called for an inquiry. It is one of the most fatal road accidents in Afghanistan over the past few years. More than 1.5 million Afghans returned from Pakistan and Iran this year, many of them arriving with nothing and in poverty. Previous bus accidents in Afghanistan have also been fatal, usually involving fuel tankers and a lack of road safety.
Pray for improved and strong road safety measures to be implemented in Afghanistan to prevent cruel road accidents. Pray for divine protection and provision for all the Afghan returnees (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:12).
Pray for the LORD’s comfort for the families of the deceased victims of the road accident in Afghanistan. Pray for the people to abide by the road safety regulations to prevent such accidents in the future (The Holy Bible, Psalm 23:4).
