On 15 August 2025, armed men attacked a truck near the town of Komabangou in western Niger. The truck was coming from the market town of Mehanna and was carrying several civilians. The attackers, described as armed bandits, stopped the truck close to the Komabangou gold mine. They forced everyone out of the vehicle and separated the men from the women. Nineteen men were lined up and shot dead. The truck driver was also killed, and the attackers set the truck on fire. The women were not harmed. Two passengers managed to escape. The attack was reported by residents and mentioned in local media and on social media. As of now, the government of Niger has not made any official comment about the incident. The Komabangou area has seen past violence and is known for the presence of insurgent and armed criminal groups.
Pray for the perpetrators behind the violent attack to be brought to justice quickly. Pray for the Nigerien government to implement stringent measures to curb the violent attacks of insurgent and armed criminal groups in the western region of the country. (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:9).
Pray for divine protection upon all the civilians in western Niger. Pray for the LORD’s comfort for the families of the deceased victims. Pray for peace and justice to prevail in the region (The Holy Bible, Psalm 17:8).
