Tibet: International experts have raised urgent alarms regarding the increasing danger to religious freedom and the cultural identity of Tibetans, stemming from the Chinese government’s involvement in the Dalai Lama’s succession. The event, titled “Freedom of Religion and Interference in the Appointment of Religious Clergy in Tibet,” attracted a large audience and featured prominent Tibetan human rights advocates who emphasized the spiritual, cultural, and political consequences of China’s attempts to regulate the reincarnation process of Tibetan lamas. They called on international organizations and civil society to take a firm stance against Chinese interference and to support the Tibetan people’s right to religious and cultural self-determination.
