In South Sudan, many people are struggling because the economy is very bad. The government can’t pay workers on time, and prices for food and goods keep rising. Because of this, more people are buying cheap shoes made from old tires. Shoemaker Emmanuel Achuil makes these shoes in the town of Wau. He carves soles from discarded tires and adds colorful straps. His shoes are strong, last a long time, and cost about $4 a pair, which is affordable for many. Demand for his shoes has grown because many cannot afford expensive leather shoes. Achuil learned the craft as a child and wants to open a workshop to train young people, but he lacks tools and support. He believes this work can help many unemployed youth in his town survive during tough times. The economic crisis in South Sudan, worsened by conflict and inflation, is making simple, durable footwear more important than ever.

Pray for unity and wise counsel for the authorities in South Sudan to take immediate action to stabilize the economy in South Sudan. Pray for the government to create new job opportunities for the people, especially the youth, in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 28:7).

Almighty GOD, the One who makes a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, do a new thing in the nation of South Sudan. Bless the South Sudanese youth with new jobs, new opportunities, and new life in You. In Jesus’s Name, we pray. Amen (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 43:19).
