The Human Trafficking Investigation Unit (USPM) of Brunei’s Royal Police held a roadshow for 40 local leaders in Temburong District to teach them how to spot signs of human trafficking. The briefing explained USPM’s work and shared real cases since 2011 to help the community protect itself. The event, led by Legislative Council member Sulaiman Nasir, demonstrated that raising awareness among local leaders is crucial to combating trafficking more effectively. Despite these efforts, Brunei faces challenges. It has been criticized for not prosecuting traffickers enough and not protecting victims well. In 2024, the U.S. placed Brunei in Tier 3 on its Trafficking in Persons Report, meaning the country needs to do more. To improve, Brunei is joining regional programs like ASEAN’s plan against trafficking and working with international partners to strengthen law enforcement and help victims better.
Pray for the success of all government efforts to eradicate human trafficking in Brunei. Pray for divine protection upon all the people in the country, especially the victims. (The Holy Bible, Psalm 12:5).
Pray that the evildoers behind the human trafficking wings are quickly brought to justice. Pray for justice to prevail for the vulnerable victims. (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
