Women and girls in Afghanistan face serious human rights abuses under the Taliban. They are not allowed to go to school, work, or move freely. The justice system does not protect them. Instead, it is used to punish and silence them. The United Nations special rapporteur, Richard Bennett, says these actions are part of a wider crackdown on human rights in the country. He reports that the Taliban’s rules cause great harm and fear. Many women and girls suffer from violence and have no way to seek help. Their basic rights are being taken away every day. Bennett says that the world must act now to stop these abuses and ensure justice for victims and punishment for those responsible. These crimes include gender persecution, which is a serious international crime. The situation in Afghanistan continues to get worse for women and girls.
Pray against gender-based discrimination in Afghanistan. Pray for Afghan women and girls to have access to all their basic needs and rights in their homeland (The Holy Bible, Psalm 30:10).
Pray for the end of the oppressive regime in Afghanistan. Pray for the international leaders to take stringent action to end the human rights abuses. Pray for justice and peace to prevail in the nation. (The Holy Bible, Job 36:6).
