Forty-four people in Nigeria have been sentenced to 10 to 30 years in prison with hard labour for funding Boko Haram. The trials took place at a military base in Kanji, Niger State, using special courts set up for terrorism cases. Ten other suspects will face trial later, according to the country’s counter-terrorism agency. Since 2017, Nigeria has held mass trials for terrorism and has convicted 785 people so far. Boko Haram is a violent extremist group that began in northeastern Nigeria in 2002. It opposes Western influence and blames it for corruption in the country. The group has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions across Nigeria and neighboring countries like Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. Boko Haram is known for brutal tactics, including suicide bombings and deadly attacks. In 2014, they kidnapped 276 schoolgirls in Chibok and killed dozens of schoolboys in a government school attack. The group remains a serious threat in the region.
Pray for the Nigerian government to take immediate action to protect its civilians, especially the Christian population in the country. Pray that the government will act impartially, ensuring equal protection for all, regardless of religion (The Holy Bible, Exodus 23:2).
Pray against all the terrorist groups working in Nigeria. Pray for the LORD to cut the cords of funding of the Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the nation. Pray for the LORD to thwart all their plans against the peace in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 129:4).
