Pray For Peace

Sudan has endured devastating conflict since April 2023. Pray for an end to violence and for civilians caught in the conflict to be protected.

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.

Psalm 46:9

Pray For Sudanese Christians

Sudan’s Christian communities have faced pressure and insecurity, and the current war has increased risks to religious minorities and places of worship.

Pray for courage, wisdom, protection, and perseverance.

that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.

1 Thessalonians 3:3

Pray For Scripture In Every Language

Sudan’s people groups speak numerous languages, including Sudanese Arabic and many African languages.

Pray for Bible translation, audio Scripture, Christian media, and discipleship resources that communicate the Gospel in people’s own languages.

And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?

Acts 2:8

Pray For A New Generation

Sudan’s young people have grown up amid enormous uncertainty and conflict. Pray that a new generation will discover hope in Christ and become agents of reconciliation and Gospel mission.

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the Believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

1 Timothy 4:12

Capital: Khartoum
Region: Northeast Africa / Sahel
Population: Approximately 52.8 million
People groups: 198
Unreached people groups: 168
Unreached frontier people groups: 122
Population in unreached groups: Approximately 50.1 million (94.9%)
Population in unreached frontier groups: Approximately 32.5 million (61.6%)

Sudan is one of Africa’s most culturally and ethnically diverse nations, with communities spread across the Nile Valley, the Sahara, the Sahel, Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, the Blue Nile, and other regions.

198 people groups in Sudan, of which 168 are unreached, and 122 are classified as unreached frontier groups. Its estimates place approximately 50.1 million people—94.9% of Sudan’s population—within unreached people groups.

Sudan’s current reality makes prayer especially urgent.

The war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023, has created a devastating humanitarian crisis. Civilians have been affected across ethnic, tribal, geographic, and religious lines. USCIRF has also documented attacks on places of worship, detention of members of religious minorities, and a climate of fear affecting religious communities.

For THEY’VE NEVER HEARD, this means we should pray for two things simultaneously:

the immediate suffering of the Sudanese people

and

the long-term Gospel witness among Sudan’s unreached peoples.

Sudan has been in the headlines because of war.

But Sudan is more than a war. Behind every headline are people. Families trying to survive. Children growing up without knowing peace. Communities forced from their homes. Christian Believers are trying to follow Christ in difficult circumstances.

Millions of people belong to communities where the Gospel has barely been heard. Some have heard the name, Jesus. Some have encountered Christians. But for many others, there has never been a meaningful opportunity to understand the Gospel.

They’ve never heard.

So we pray.

We pray for peace. We pray for the suffering. We pray for the Church. We pray for the displaced. We pray for the 168 unreached people groups scattered throughout Sudan because behind every number is a person. Behind every people group is a community God knows and loves.

Pray For Those Who Have Never Heard

More than 50 million people in Sudan are estimated to live within unreached people groups.

Heavenly Father, You know every person in Sudan who has never heard the Gospel. Open unexpected doors for Your Word to reach communities where there is little or no Christian witness.

meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains,

Colossians 4:3

Pray For The Masalit And Other Displaced Peoples

The Masalit are one of Sudan’s significant people groups. There are approximately 556,000 Masalit in Sudan, with a very small Christian presence.

The conflict in Darfur has also caused enormous displacement and suffering among communities in the region.

God of all comfort, draw near to communities that have experienced violence and displacement. Heal deep wounds, restore what has been lost, and place compassionate people alongside those who are suffering.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

2 Corinthians 1:3–4

Lord Jesus,

We bring Sudan before You. You see the suffering that the world sees—and the suffering that the world does not see. You know every family displaced by war. You know every child who has grown up surrounded by violence.

You know every Christian Believer is praying quietly for protection. You know every person who has never heard the Gospel. Lord, bring peace to Sudan. Protect civilians. Comfort those who mourn. Provide for those who have lost homes and livelihoods.

Strengthen Your Church. Give courage to pastors and Christian Believers. Give wisdom to those serving refugees and displaced communities. Open doors into Sudan’s unreached peoples. We pray for the Masalit and every other community that has suffered.

We pray for the 122 unreached frontier peoples. We pray for those who have never heard the name of Jesus in a way they can understand. Send workers. Provide Scripture. Open hearts. Raise up, disciples. Build Your Church. Let the Gospel travel from community to community until those who have never heard finally hear.

Lord Jesus, bring light into Sudan.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
