Pray for Kuwaiti families
Father, reveal Your goodness to Kuwaiti families. Meet people in their questions, struggles, and hopes. Draw them toward the truth and refuge found in Christ.
The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him.
Nahum 1:7
Pray for those who are quietly searching
Lord, meet people who are searching privately. Give them the courage to seek truth and provide trustworthy people, resources, and conversations through which they can encounter Jesus.
Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
Psalm 62:8
Pray for Christian workers and churches
Father, strengthen pastors, missionaries, church leaders, and ordinary Christian Believers serving in Kuwait. Protect them from discouragement. Give them endurance and wisdom for long-term ministry.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Pray for a Multiplying Gospel Movement
Lord Jesus, let people from every community living in Kuwait have an opportunity to hear the gospel. Raise up disciples who will make disciples, and let those who encounter Christ carry His message wherever their lives take them next.
And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
2 Corinthians 5:18
Capital: Kuwait City
Region: Arabian Peninsula
Population: Approximately 4.87 million
Official Language: Arabic
Widely Used Language: English
Dominant Religious Tradition: Islam
Christian Adherents: A significant minority, largely including expatriate communities
Identified People Groups: Approximately 30
Unreached People Groups: Numerous communities remain below the threshold for an established evangelical presence
Life Expectancy: Approximately 85 years
Kuwait’s indigenous population is predominantly Arab, but the country’s modern population includes people from an extraordinary range of backgrounds.
Among the communities living in Kuwait are:
Kuwaiti Sunni Arabs, Kuwaiti Shia Arabs, Persians, Iraqi Arabs, Egyptians, Syrians, Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Filipinos, Sri Lankans, Nepalis, Africans, and many other communities.
For Christians, this creates a remarkable reality:
The nations have come to Kuwait.
A person does not necessarily have to travel thousands of kilometers to encounter another culture.
A workplace, apartment building, school, shop, or church fellowship can bring people from completely different backgrounds together.
Among the communities identified as unreached are Kuwaiti Shia Arabs, Persians, Malayalis, Tamils, Telugu speakers, and Iraqi Arabs. Current people-group profiles describe these communities as having less than 2% evangelical Christian presence.
Kuwait’s international population creates a unique mission opportunity.
A worker from South Asia may live alongside a Kuwaiti family. A Persian-speaking employee may work with someone from the Philippines. An Iraqi family may live in the same neighborhood as Christian Believers from another part of the world. The church, therefore, has opportunities to demonstrate Christ’s love across languages, nationalities, and cultures.
And some of the people who encounter Christians in Kuwait may eventually carry what they have learned back to their families and communities elsewhere.
Mission can begin with a conversation in a workplace. It can begin with hospitality. It can begin with a meal. It can begin with someone asking:
“Why do you follow Jesus?”
Religious identity
Islam is deeply embedded in Kuwaiti society. Religious identity can be closely connected to family, culture, and community.
Social pressure
For someone from a Muslim background who begins considering Christianity, questions of family expectations, identity, and relationships can become significant.
Expatriate communities
Kuwait’s migrant population is extremely diverse. Reaching one expatriate community does not automatically mean reaching another.
Language
Arabic is central to Kuwaiti life, while English is widely used among expatriates. Malayalam, Tamil, Persian, Telugu, Urdu, Bengali, and numerous other languages are also spoken. The gospel needs to reach people in the language of their hearts.
Restricted openness
Christian witness can require wisdom and sensitivity. Some Christian Believers may need to exercise considerable discretion about how they share their faith.
Short-term migration
Many expatriates live in Kuwait for a limited period before returning home or moving elsewhere. This creates both a challenge and an extraordinary opportunity. A Christian may have only a few years—or even a few months—to influence someone’s life.
Pray for the Kuwaiti Shia Arab community
The Kuwaiti Shia Arab community numbers approximately 459,000 and is currently classified as having less than 2% evangelical Christian presence.
Gracious and Heavenly Father, guide people within the Kuwaiti Shia community toward truth. Give Christian Believers wisdom to build genuine relationships and create opportunities for respectful conversations about Christ.
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”
Whenever you turn to the right hand
Or whenever you turn to the left.
Isaiah 30:21
Pray for Persian communities
The Persian community numbers approximately 50,000 and is described as unengaged and unreached, with Shia Islam as its primary religious affiliation.
Lord Jesus, draw Persian families toward Yourself. Meet them in their history, struggles, and questions. Give them opportunities to encounter the gospel and discover Christ’s presence.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah 43:2
Pray for the South Asian communities
The Malayali community is estimated at approximately 318,000, with Malayalam as its primary language and Islam as its primary religious affiliation; it too has less than 2% evangelical presence.
The Tamil community of Kuwait is estimated at about 4,700 people and is also identified as an unreached Muslim community.
Holy Spirit, give courage and wisdom to Christian Believers reaching Malayalam-, Tamil-, and Telugu-speaking communities. Let Christian fellowship, Scripture, and personal witness point people toward Jesus.
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness.
Acts 4:31
Pray for migrant workers
God of Compassion, remember workers living far from their families. Give them dignity, protection, fair treatment, and genuine friendship. Place caring Christians around those who feel isolated or forgotten.
casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
Heavenly Father,
We bring Kuwait before You.
You know every Kuwaiti family. You know every migrant worker. You know every expatriate community. You know every language spoken behind apartment doors and every story carried across the borders of this small nation.
We pray for those who have never heard the gospel clearly. Reach Kuwaiti families. Reach the Shia community. Reach Persian families. Reach South Asian communities. Reach every people group whose presence in Kuwait may be invisible to the wider world.
Strengthen Christian workers. Give churches wisdom. Give Christian Believers courage and discretion. Create friendships that open doors for the gospel. Give Your people compassion for those who are far from home.
Let those who encounter Jesus in Kuwait carry His message wherever they go. May the gospel travel through workplaces, homes, friendships, and conversations. May people who have never heard finally hear. May those who hear encounter Christ and may those who encounter Christ become witnesses themselves.
In the Name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
