Pray For Peace

South Sudan has experienced years of conflict and continues to face insecurity and intercommunal violence.

Lord Jesus, bring lasting peace to South Sudan. Heal divisions between communities, restrain violence, give wisdom to leaders, and help those who have experienced conflict become peacemakers.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.

Psalm 122:6

Pray For South Sudanese Christians

South Sudan has a significant Christian community. Pray that churches will remain faithful to Christ and become places of healing, reconciliation, discipleship and mission.

Lord Jesus, strengthen Your Church in South Sudan. Give pastors wisdom, believers courage and congregations a deep love for their neighbours. Let churches become places where divided communities discover reconciliation through Christ.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

1 Peter 2:9

Pray For Scripture In Every Language

South Sudan’s many languages create an important need for Scripture, discipleship materials, audio resources and Christian teaching in people’s heart languages.

Holy Father, make Your Word accessible to every community in South Sudan. Give translators wisdom and accuracy, and raise up local Christian Believers who can teach Scripture clearly within their own languages and cultures.

The entirety of Your Word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

Psalm 119:160

Pray For Reconciliation

South Sudan’s communities have experienced deep divisions and cycles of violence.

Lord Jesus, bring reconciliation where there has been hatred and division. Help communities forgive, rebuild trust and choose peace. Let Your Children demonstrate the transforming power of Your love.

Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

South Sudan is a young nation with remarkable ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity. Its people include communities such as the Dinka, Nuer, Shilluk, Bari, Azande, Acholi, Toposa, Anyuak, Murle and many others.

80 people groups within South Sudan, with six classified as unreached. Approximately 696,000 people are estimated to live within those unreached groups.

South Sudan contains communities with very different histories, languages, cultures, and religious backgrounds.

Among the people groups currently classified as unreached are Arab, Sudanese; Arab, Mongallese; Njalgulgule; and Deaf communities, among others. There are approximately 377,000 Sudanese Arabs and 243,000 Mongallese Arabs within South Sudan, while the Njalgulgule are estimated at around 2,100.

Christianity has a substantial presence in South Sudan, but the existence of a Christian majority does not mean that every community has equal access to the Gospel. Some communities remain difficult to reach because of geography, language, isolation, conflict, displacement, or limited Christian witness.

South Sudan therefore needs prayer not only for the strengthening of its existing churches, but also for the people who are still waiting to hear.

South Sudan is a land of extraordinary people, cultures and languages.

Across its cities, villages, rivers, grasslands and remote communities are millions of people.

Some know the Gospel.

Some belong to vibrant Christian communities.

But others remain beyond meaningful access to the message of Jesus.

They may live far from established churches.

They may speak a language for which Christian resources are scarce.

They may live in communities affected by conflict or displacement.

They may simply have never encountered someone who could explain the Gospel to them.

They’ve never heard.

So we pray.

We pray for the overlooked.

We pray for the distant.

We pray for the displaced.

We pray for the Church.

We pray for the workers.

So we pray for every person in South Sudan who is still waiting for an opportunity to hear.

Pray For Those Who Have Never Heard

Six people groups in South Sudan are currently classified as unreached, representing an estimated 696,000 people.

Gracious and Heavenly Father, You know every person in South Sudan who has never heard the Gospel. Open doors into unreached communities and raise up believers who will carry the message of Jesus with humility, wisdom and love.

That Your way may be known on earth,
Your salvation among all nations.

Psalm 67:2

Pray For The Unreached People Groups

Pray specifically for the communities where Gospel access remains limited, including the Sudanese Arab, Mongallese Arab, Njalgulgule and other unreached communities identified in current research.

Lord Jesus, make Yourself known among every unreached community in South Sudan. Give Your Church eyes to see those who are overlooked and hearts willing to cross every barrier that separates people from the Gospel.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:26

Lord Jesus,

We bring South Sudan before You.

You know every community, every language, every village and every family.

You know those who have experienced war.

You know those who have been displaced.

You know those who are hungry.

You know the children who have grown up surrounded by uncertainty.

And You know every person who has never heard the Gospel.

We ask You to bring peace to South Sudan.

Heal communities wounded by violence. Give wisdom to leaders. Strengthen those working for reconciliation.

Protect families who have been displaced.

Provide food, shelter, healthcare and education for those in need.

Strengthen Your Church.

Give pastors courage and wisdom. Give believers a passion for their neighbours and a vision for communities that have yet to hear.

And Lord, we pray for the unreached.

Open doors.

Prepare hearts.

Send workers.

Provide Scripture.

Raise up disciples.

Establish churches.

And let the Gospel reach every community that has yet to hear the good news of Jesus.

May South Sudan know Your peace.

May its people know Your love.

And may Your name be proclaimed throughout the nation.

Amen.
