Pray For Afghan Believers
There are Afghans who identify as followers of Jesus, including people who follow Christ quietly and under significant personal risk.
Pray that they will have wisdom, protection, fellowship, and courage.
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5
Pray For Women And Children
Afghan women and girls have faced severe restrictions on education, employment, movement, and public life under Taliban rule. Children have also grown up amid decades of conflict and instability.
Pray for protection, dignity, education, provision, and hope.
Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Psalm 82:3
Pray For Scripture In Every Language
Afghanistan’s linguistic diversity means that access to God’s Word cannot be considered only at the national level.
Pray for Scripture translation, audio resources, digital distribution, and other forms of Gospel communication in Dari, Pashto, and the country’s many minority languages.
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11
Pray For Open Doors
Traditional missionary access to Afghanistan is extremely difficult. Pray for legitimate opportunities for Christians to serve Afghans through humanitarian work, education, medicine, business, refugee ministry, media, technology, friendship, and other avenues.
“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My Name.”
Revelation 3:8
Capital: Kabul

Unreached people groups: 58
Unreached frontier people groups: 51
Afghanistan is a name almost everyone recognizes.
We have seen its mountains. We have seen its wars. We have seen its refugees. We have seen its suffering. But behind the headlines are people.
A father sitting with his family. A mother caring for her children. A teenager wondering what the future holds. A farmer working in a remote valley. A student dreaming of a different life. A community speaking a language most of the world has never heard.
Afghanistan is a country of extraordinary ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity. Major communities include Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, Turkmen, Baloch, Nuristanis, Pashai, Pamiris, Aimaq, and others. Dari and Pashto are the principal national languages, alongside numerous regional and minority languages.
For THEY’VE NEVER HEARD, Afghanistan presents an especially important reminder: a country can be overwhelmingly unreached even when it is internationally well known.
There are 58 people groups in Afghanistan, with all 58 classified as unreached. It estimates that approximately 44.9 million people live within those unreached groups, with 51 groups classified as unreached frontier.
Among millions of these people are those who may have never had a meaningful opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They don’t need to become statistics in our prayer books. They need to become names on our prayer lists. They’ve never heard. So we pray.
Afghanistan’s geography itself creates challenges.
Mountain ranges, remote valleys, dispersed communities, conflict, displacement, poverty, and limited infrastructure can make access difficult. But geography is only one part of the story.
Afghanistan has also experienced decades of war and political upheaval. Since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, the environment for religious minorities and Christian converts has become particularly restrictive and dangerous. Public Christian witness is extremely difficult, and people who leave Islam can face severe social and legal consequences.
That means prayer for Afghanistan needs to include protection, wisdom, access, and courage.
Pray For Those Who Have Never Heard
Pray for the millions of Afghans who have little or no meaningful opportunity to hear and understand the Gospel.
Lord Jesus, reach the people of Afghanistan who have never heard Your Gospel. Prepare hearts to receive Your Word and create ways for people to encounter the truth about You.
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
Romans 10:14
Pray For The Hazara
The Hazara are a significant Afghan community and have experienced discrimination, persecution, and violence over many years.
Pray for protection, peace, healing, and opportunities for Hazara people to encounter Jesus.
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
Psalm 34:18
Lord Jesus,
Today, we pray for Afghanistan. You know this nation completely. You know its mountains and valleys, its cities and villages, its languages and peoples. You know every family and every individual. You know those who have never heard.
We pray for the Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, Turkmen, Baloch, Nuristani, Pashai, Pamiri, Aimaq, and every other people group within Afghanistan.
Open doors for Your Gospel. Strengthen Afghan Christian Believers. Protect those who follow You in difficult circumstances. Provide Scripture in every language. Give wisdom to those serving Afghan refugees and displaced families worldwide.
Bring healing to those who have experienced violence and loss. Protect women and children. Give hope to young people, and where the Gospel cannot currently be openly preached, find Your own ways to reach them.
Speak through Your Word. Speak through dreams and conversations. Speak through relationships. Speak through acts of compassion. Speak through every door You choose to open.
Lord, make a way where there appears to be no way. May disciples arise among the peoples of Afghanistan.
May families encounter Christ. May communities hear the Gospel. And may the day come when no Afghan people group can truthfully say: “We have never heard.”
In the mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.
