Pray for children and education

Ask God to protect children and give them opportunities to receive a good education, develop their abilities and discover God’s purposes for their lives.

Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

Pray for families facing poverty and hardship

Ask God to provide food, healthcare, work and stability for families struggling to meet basic needs.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Matthew 6:11

Pray for peace between religious communities

Guinea has a history of cooperation between religious communities.

Pray that Christian and Muslim leaders will continue to promote peace, respect, and social cohesion.

Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

Romans 14:19

Pray for a multiplying Church

Ask God to establish healthy Christian communities that make disciples who can reach their own families, villages, and people groups.

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

Capital: Conakry
Region: West Africa
Population: approximately 15.1 million
Primary Religion: Islam
Christian Adherents: approximately 4–11%
Evangelical Christians: approximately 0.7%
People Groups: 42
Unreached People Groups: 28
Population in Unreached Groups: approximately 13.3 million
Unreached Frontier Groups: 15

Guinea is a coastal West African nation stretching from the Atlantic Ocean through forested highlands and savanna into the interior.

Its people represent a remarkable diversity of languages, cultures, and traditions. French is the official language, while Susu, Pular, Maninka, and many other African languages are spoken throughout the country.

Guinea’s major peoples include the Fulani/Pular, Malinke/Maninka, Susu, Kpelle, Kissi, Toma, Loma, Baga, Landuma, Kuranko, and many smaller communities.

Religion is also diverse.

Islam is the majority faith, while Christianity has a significant but much smaller presence. Indigenous religious practices continue to influence the beliefs and customs of many communities, sometimes alongside formal identification with Christianity or Islam.

There are 42 people groups in Guinea, with 28 classified as unreached. Approximately 13.3 million people live within those unreached communities, while 15 groups are classified as unreached frontier peoples.

Among the communities requiring particular prayer are:

  • Eastern Maninka
  • Susu
  • Jahanka
  • Landuma
  • East Limba
  • Nalu
  • Wamei/Konyagi

The Eastern Maninka are one of the largest examples. Their population in Guinea is estimated at more than 3.7 million, with Islam overwhelmingly dominant and very little known evangelical presence.

The Susu are another major community, numbering more than 2.6 million in Guinea. Their language is widely used as a trade language, yet evangelical presence among them remains extremely small.

The Nalu number approximately 13,000 in Guinea, while the East Limba number approximately 1,300. Both have extremely limited evangelical presence.

The mission challenge, therefore, exists at two levels:

Large communities numbering in the millions and small communities that can easily be overlooked.

Both need prayer.

Guinea is officially a secular state and provides for freedom of religion and worship. Religious communities operate within a system that requires official recognition and registration.

For many communities, however, the greatest barriers to the gospel are not simply legal.

They include:

  • Language
  • Geography
  • Limited access to education
  • Strong family and community traditions
  • Poverty
  • Religious identity
  • Limited Christian presence in some areas

In parts of Guinea, particularly in the middle and upper regions, social and family pressure can discourage people from converting from Islam. Interfaith marriages can also create significant family tensions.

Guinea is a country with significant economic and social needs.

Large parts of the population live in rural areas, where access to education, healthcare, employment, and infrastructure can be limited.

Literacy remains a major challenge, particularly for communities with limited access to formal education. Current estimates place national literacy at around 30%. This has important implications for gospel access.

A written resource cannot reach everyone equally. A person may speak a language that has limited written material. A village may have little access to books or reliable internet. A young person may have access to a mobile phone but limited opportunity to engage with formal education.

This makes oral Scripture, audio resources, storytelling, discipleship, and culturally appropriate communication especially important.

Pray that the message of Jesus will be communicated in ways that people can genuinely understand.

Guinea also receives people fleeing insecurity and instability elsewhere in the region.

As of May 2026, UNHCR recorded more than 2,100 refugees and 176 asylum seekers in Guinea, alongside broader regional humanitarian needs. For displaced people, life can involve uncertainty over housing, work, education, documentation, and family stability.

Pray for people who have been forced from their homes.

Pray for children whose education has been disrupted.

Pray for families trying to rebuild their lives.

Pray for the people who have never heard

Ask God to open doors for the gospel among communities where there are few or no known followers of Jesus.

I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles.

Isaiah 66:19

Pray for the Eastern Maninka

Pray for this large community, where the Christian witness remains extremely small. Ask God to raise up people who can communicate Christ with wisdom and cultural understanding.

Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:10

Pray for the Susu

Pray for Susu families and communities to encounter the gospel in their own language and through trusted relationships.

The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.

Psalm 119:130

Pray for Scripture in Guinea’s many languages

Pray for translators, storytellers, teachers, and those developing audio and digital Scripture resources.

Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”

Acts 2:11

Heavenly Father,

We bring Guinea before You.

You know every people. Every language. Every village. Every family. Every child. You know those who follow Jesus. You know those who are searching. You know those who have never heard.

Reach the peoples of Guinea. Reach the Eastern Maninka. Reach the Susu. Reach the Jahanka. Reach the Landuma. Reach the Nalu. Reach the Limba. Reach the Kpelle. Reach every community whose name may be unfamiliar to us, but is completely known to You.

Give Your Church courage. Give Christian leaders wisdom. Give workers the patience to learn languages and cultures. Give translators perseverance. Give families hope. Give children opportunities to learn.

Provide for those facing poverty. Protect those who have chosen to follow Jesus. Bring peace between communities. Let the gospel cross every barrier that stands between people and the knowledge of Christ.

May those who have never heard hear. May those who hear understand. May those who understand believe. May those who believe become witnesses to their own people.

In the Name of Jesus,
Amen.
