Pray for Christians under pressure
Ask God to strengthen Believers who face social or family pressure because of their faith.

Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?

Mark 10:14
Pray for peace and restoration

Niger is a large country in the Sahel region, where the Sahara desert meets the grassy savanna.
The people of Niger include groups like the Hausa, Zarma-Songhai, Fulani, Tuareg, Kanuri, Toubou, Dendi, Arabs, and many smaller communities. French is the official language, but many others such as Hausa, Zarma, Fulfulde, Kanuri, and Tamasheq are spoken throughout the country.
Most people in Niger are Muslim. Earlier reports said over 98% of the population follows Islam, while Christians make up less than 2%, and a small number follow Indigenous beliefs. Some families blend traditional practices with Islam.
The land and climate of Niger also influence how people live. People in the south live in areas with farms and rivers, while those farther north live in drier parts of the Sahara and Sahel. For many families, daily life depends on the weather, farming, raising animals, moving for work, and finding water.
Current people-group estimates identify 36 people groups in Niger, with 30 classified as unreached.
Approximately 27.88 million people, or about 98% of the population, live within these unreached communities. Eighteen groups are classified as unreached frontier peoples.
Among the communities requiring particular prayer are:
- Hausa
- Zarma-Songhai
- Fulani
- Tuareg
- Kanuri
- Dendi
- Daza
- Kanembu
The Maouri Hausa, for example, number more than one million people in Niger and are predominantly Muslim.
The Daza are a smaller desert people, numbering approximately 102,000 in Niger and overwhelmingly Muslim.
The Tumari Kanuri number approximately 114,000 and are also overwhelmingly Muslim, with extremely little known Christian presence.
The Kanembu number approximately 38,000 in Niger and likewise have a very limited Christian presence.
Niger is facing a significant humanitarian and displacement crisis.
As of 30 June 2026, more than 1.05 million people were forcibly displaced or otherwise recorded as persons of concern, including approximately 548,000 internally displaced people and 456,000 refugees and asylum seekers.
The situation has been particularly difficult in areas affected by insecurity.
Recent humanitarian reporting describes a constrained operating environment, with attacks by armed groups, criminality, and intercommunal violence continuing to affect communities. Tillabéri, Diffa, and northern Tahoua have remained particularly affected.
These challenges have a deep impact. Families leave their homes. Children lose access to school. Livelihoods disappear. Communities receive people who have been displaced themselves. Humanitarian organizations struggle to reach people in need and many families live with uncertainty about tomorrow.
The Church can show Christ’s compassion in these difficult times.
Niger’s legal framework has historically provided for freedom of religion and worship while placing limits on religious activity considered contrary to public order and social peace. Public open-air proselytization has also been restricted in security-sensitive circumstances.
However, laws are just one of the challenges people face.
For many communities, other barriers are enormous:
- Distance
- Language
- Geographic isolation
- Strong family traditions
- Religious identity
- Low literacy
- Poverty
- Insecurity
A person can live hundreds of kilometers from the nearest established Christian community. A language may have few Christian resources. A family may have followed the same religious traditions for generations. In places where there is violence, even traveling from one community to another can be very hard.
For people who choose to follow Jesus from a Muslim background, there may also be pressure from family. So we pray not just for people to hear. Only that people will hear. We also pray that they will have safe chances to learn about the gospel, understand Scripture, and grow in faith.
Pray for the millions who have never heard
Ask God to open doors for the gospel among communities where there are very few followers of Jesus.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
Psalm 105:1
Pray for the Hausa communities
Pray for Hausa families to encounter the gospel in ways that are understandable, respectful, and relevant to their cultural setting.
The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him,
And He will show them His covenant.
Psalm 25:14
Pray for the Zarma-Songhai people
Ask God to raise up faithful witnesses and provide opportunities for Scripture and Christian teaching to reach Zarma-speaking communities.
Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.
Psalm 119:24
Pray for the Fulani communities
Pray for families and communities where the gospel has had very limited access. Ask God to prepare hearts and open relationships.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26
Pray for the Tuareg and the desert people
Ask God to reach communities living across the Sahara and Sahel and to make His Word accessible in their languages.
Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times, And the strength of salvation; The fear of the Lord is His treasure.
Isaiah 33:6
Heavenly Father,
We bring Niger before You.
You know every people. Every language. Every village. Every desert community.
Every family. Every child. You know those who follow Jesus. You know those who are searching. And You know those who have never heard.
Reach the Hausa. Reach the Zarma-Songhai. Reach the Fulani. Reach the Tuareg.
Reach the Kanuri. Reach the Dendi. Reach the Daza. Reach the Kanembu. Reach every smaller community across Niger.
Strengthen Your Church. Give courage to Believers. Give wisdom to Christian leaders. Protect those serving vulnerable communities. Bring comfort to displaced families. Protect children. Provide food, water, education, and shelter.
Bring peace to communities living with insecurity.
Open doors for Scripture. Raise up faithful witnesses from within Niger’s own communities. Let the gospel cross every barrier that keeps people from knowing Christ. May those who have never heard hear. May those who hear understand.
May those who understand believe. May those who believe become faithful witnesses to their own people.
In the Name of Jesus,
Amen.
