Vietnam is emerging as a key global partner, with countries such as the US, EU, Japan, and others seeking to deepen trade and security ties due to its rapidly growing economy and strategic position in Asia. But behind the scenes, Vietnam remains one of the most repressive countries in Southeast Asia. People are being jailed for peacefully speaking out, like Dao Ba Cuong, whose son died in police custody. Dao was imprisoned after demanding justice online. Over 140 people have been charged under a vague law used to silence criticism. While world leaders praise Vietnam’s growth, many ignore these human rights abuses. Groups like Human Rights Watch argue that international governments should speak out, support civil society, and advocate for fair labor rights. Real growth should include justice, dignity, and respect for all voices.
Praise GOD for the economic growth in Vietnam. Pray for the international authorities to urge the Vietnamese government to adhere to international human rights laws and uphold the rights and freedoms of its citizens (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 59:7-8).
Pray for the immediate and unconditional release of those imprisoned for raising their voice for justice, rights, and freedoms in Vietnam. Pray for justice to be served for the victims (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
