Vietnam’s ruling Communist Party is holding its five-year congress to choose new leaders and set goals for the fast-growing economy. The most important role is general secretary, and current leader To Lam is widely expected to keep the position. Since taking office in August 2024, he has pushed strong economic reforms and promised rapid growth. Vietnam has become a major manufacturing and export hub, attracting foreign companies moving supply chains away from China. However, the country faces challenges, including corruption and trade pressure from US tariffs under President Donald Trump. Despite these risks, exports to the US have continued to rise. The government has set a very ambitious growth target of 10% for 2026, higher than its long-term average. Meeting this goal is seen as vital for the Communist Party’s legitimacy. About 1,600 party delegates will approve policies and select a new Central Committee, which will then choose the political bureau and top leadership. The public does not vote in this process.
Pray for the success of the ruling communist party’s congress to choose new leaders in Vietnam. Pray for transparency and truth to prevail in the voting process (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 8:14-16).
Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to improve the economy amidst challenges in Vietnam. Pray for the authorities to take effective action to eradicate corruption at all levels and sectors of the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 11:14).
