Since early 2025, violence and human rights abuses in South Sudan have escalated, with civilians bearing the brunt of the conflict. Fighting between government forces and opposition groups has caused many serious problems, including killing civilians, sexual violence, attacks on schools and hospitals, and forced recruitment of children and adults. Government forces have also arrested journalists, activists, and political opponents. Humanitarian access is limited, and civilians continue to suffer. The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council has been closely monitoring the situation. In recent months, AU officials, including members of the High-Level Committee on South Sudan, have conducted field visits and diplomatic engagements to assess the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement. The AU has highlighted concerns about attacks on civilians, the use of explosive weapons in populated areas, and obstacles to humanitarian aid. Analysts say the AU’s monitoring efforts underscore the ongoing challenges in addressing the deepening humanitarian and political crisis in South Sudan.

Pray for the African Union authorities to take immediate action to stop the violence against civilians and their properties in South Sudan. Pray for peace and justice to prevail in the country (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 16:19).

Pray for international lawmakers to hold the perpetrators of the human rights abuses in South Sudan accountable. Pray for divine protection upon all the civilians and for humanitarian aid to reach the people in need in the country at the right time (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:15).
