United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has urged the Thai government to ensure that 18 Cambodian soldiers, detained for 73 days following the July 28 ceasefire, are treated according to international human rights and humanitarian law. In a letter to Keo Remy, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, Turk expressed concern over the soldiers’ illegal detention and called for their immediate release so they can reunite with their families. He also praised the ceasefire and the 13-point implementation plan agreed on August 7, viewing them as key steps toward lasting peace and civilian protection. Turk urged both nations to honour the ceasefire in good faith, build mutual trust, and work through bilateral and regional mechanisms. The UN reaffirmed its support for both governments in upholding human rights and peacebuilding efforts.
Abba Father, we pray for the 18 Cambodian soldiers who remain detained. May justice and compassion prevail so they can return safely to their families. Let Your mercy touch the hearts of those in power and bring about their release. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 146:7).
Lord, comfort the families of the detained soldiers and all those suffering from the conflict. Strengthen them with hope, surround them with love, and remind them that You never abandon Your children. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).
