A fire at Iraq’s Zubair oilfield on Sunday killed at least two workers and injured five others, some critically, officials confirmed. The blaze erupted during welding operations near a pipeline carrying crude oil to storage tanks.

Firefighters battled for several hours before bringing the fire under control by mid-afternoon, according to the Basra Oil Company (BOC). The oil ministry said the fire was caused by a gas leak in an old pumping system at the Zubair oil storage depot. Despite the tragedy, oil production remains unaffected at 400,000 barrels per day.

Abba Father, comfort the families mourning their loved ones lost in the Zubair fire. Surround them with Your peace and strength during this painful time. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).

God, protect every worker who serves in dangerous environments. Help industries strengthen safety standards and shield all who labor near fire, gas, or machinery. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 91:11).
