A new scam called “online kidnapping” is scaring many people in Vietnam. Scammers don’t use force; instead, they trick victims through video calls and voice messages. They pretend to be police officers and say the victim is involved in drug or money crimes. Then they order the person to lock themselves inside a hotel room, cut off from family, and follow their commands. Over time, they demand huge sums of money from the victim and their relatives. Many young people and students fall for it because the fraudsters know personal details and build pressure step by step. Some victims end up giving far more money than they have. Once police investigated, they found the “kidnapped” people were actually safe, trapped only by fear. The scheme is very clever and is often run from outside the country. Police in Vietnam are warning everyone to be careful and not trust calls from strangers asking for money. They say always speak to a trusted person or go to the police before taking any action.
Pray that the perpetrators behind the online kidnapping scam in Vietnam are quickly brought to justice. Pray for the LORD to bring these kidnapping rings and their leaders into the spotlight soon and thwart all their evil plans against innocent citizens (The Holy Bible, Job 5:12).
Pray for prompt and effective guidance of the police to the innocent civilians, especially students and young people, who are trapped in the scam. Pray for divine protection upon the innocent civilians in Vietnam (The Holy Bible, Psalm 140:8).
