In Thailand’s recent 2026 election, Prime Minister Anutin Chanrvirakul’s Bhumjaithai party won a surprising victory, while the progressive People’s Party faced a setback. Before the election, polls predicted the reformist party would do very well, especially in cities, but the results showed the opposite. Bhumjaithai won most of the local constituency seats because it has strong networks in rural areas, which comprise the majority of parliamentary seats. The People’s Party did better in the national party-list vote, but this accounts for only a small part of the seats. Anutin also gained support by emphasizing nationalism, loyalty to the army, and loyalty to the king, which appealed to conservative voters. Other factors helped him, including the decline of the Pheu Thai party and legal restrictions on reformist leaders under the lese majeste law. Strategic decisions by the People’s Party, like not taking cabinet positions, also weakened their influence. With coalition partners, Anutin is now positioned to lead the government, while the reformists face challenges rebuilding support.

Pray for divine guidance in leadership in Thailand. Pray for the Holy Spirit of GOD to fill their hearts with a desire for justice, peace, and the welfare of the people, not personal gain. Pray for wise counsel to help them improve lives and livelihoods of the citizens (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).

Pray for an improved and more effective disaster management system in Thailand to tackle the severe weather and protect civilians during deadly calamities. Pray for divine protection for all the Thai civilians from natural disasters (The Holy Bible, Psalm 33:20).
