On 8 February, Thailand had an election. The Bhumjaithai party, led by Anutin Charnvirakul, won the most seats, but not enough for a full majority. Anutin will stay as prime minister and work with the Pheu Thai party to form a government. Bhumjaithai did very well in local areas, partly because Anutin’s strong stance on the border with Cambodia made people feel patriotic. However, the party did not do as well in the nationwide vote, where the reformist People’s Party got more support. Many voters want a mix of old-style local politicians and new reform ideas. Experts say Anutin must focus on big problems like slow economic growth, high household debt, and an aging population. Overall, the election shows that Bhumjaithai is strong locally, but reformists still have some influence.
Pray for divine guidance in leadership in Thailand. Pray for the Holy Spirit of GOD to fill their hearts with a desire for justice, peace, and the welfare of the people, not personal gain. Pray for wise counsel to help them improve the lives and livelihoods of the citizens (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).
Pray for the authorities to take effective measures to improve the economy and to reduce household debt in Thailand. Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to come up with creative plans to resolve all the national crises for the welfare of the people (The Holy Bible, Psalm 33:20).
