Eritrea has rejected accusations from Ethiopia that its troops are operating inside Ethiopian territory, calling the claims false and politically motivated. The dispute began after Ethiopia’s foreign minister sent a letter demanding the withdrawal of Eritrean soldiers and accusing Eritrea of aggression. Ethiopia also claimed Eritrea was working with rebel groups and supplying them with weapons. Eritrea strongly denied the accusations, saying Ethiopia has been running hostile campaigns against it for more than two years. Tensions between the two neighbors have a long history, including a deadly border war from 1998 to 2000 that killed over 100,000 people. Relations briefly improved in 2018 after peace talks led by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. However, ties have worsened again following Ethiopia’s civil war in Tigray, where Eritrea had supported Ethiopian forces. Ethiopia is now accusing Eritrea of backing rebels opposed to the peace deal. The growing tension has raised fears of renewed conflict in the Horn of Africa region.

Lord Holy Spirit, break down pride, political rivalry, and violence between Eritrea and Ethiopia, and raise leaders who seek peace, justice, and the well-being of their people. We pray that the 2018 peace agreement be restored and upheld by all parties (The Holy Bible, Daniel 2:21).

Pray for the effective implementation of plans to solve the crisis between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Pray for an improved security system in the country. Pray for divine protection for all the people living in the Eritrea-Ethiopia border region (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 15:22).
