Ten South Koreans have been arrested and two rescued in Cambodia for allegedly taking part in major online scam operations, South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said. Earlier, Cambodia had sent back 64 South Koreans accused of running “pig butchering” scams — schemes that trick victims online before stealing their money. Officials say Cambodia’s scam industry is worth billions and involves both willing and forced workers, some held under threats. About 80 South Koreans are still missing,  around 1,000 are believed to be among the 200,000 people involved in such scams in the country. Those sent back to South Korea face charges like voice phishing, romance scams, and fraud. The arrests come after public outrage over the killing of a South Korean student by a crime gang. Both countries have promised to work together to stop cybercrime and human trafficking.

Abba Father, break the chains of human trafficking and criminal exploitation in Cambodia and beyond. Protect vulnerable lives from deceitful promises. Deliver all who are oppressed, and let Your light drive out the works of darkness. In Jesus’ name. amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 18:2).

Lord, comfort those who are missing, trapped, or traumatized by these crimes. Rescue the lost and heal their pain. Bring peace to their families waiting in fear and restore those who have suffered harm or betrayal. Amen (The Holy Bible, Psalm 147:3).
